Guv Spines spins magic on Palarong Pambansa

By Al S. Mendoza

GUV Spines is a busy man not only today but also yesterday.

Even tomorrow, I tell you.

By busy, I mean Guv Spines loves to whip himself into shape all the time to dutifully work consistently for the good of the people of Pangasinan.

He’s been like that from the very start, since he became Provincial Police Director in fact in our beloved province back in 1995.

Not to brag but I know the guy from head to foot.

If he was classmate to great guys today from his alma mater PMA, I was glassmate to Guv Spines for quite a while in the not-so-distant past.

We didn’t only break bread but bottle as well, usually having as pulutans the succulent tableau of ingkalot ya pantat, sinigang ya bisukol tan pinakbet ya layos ed bagnet.

I tell you, Guv Spines is down to earth.

Know why?

He’s a poet.  I’ve said that here many times already but I’m saying it again.

And, like all poets, Guv Spines is as sensitive as Pablo Neruda, if not Edgar Allan Poe, to the ways of the world, including the aches and angst of the heart.

Only sensitive people can listen to the heartbeat of the people, to the wailing of the masses we are sworn to serve without any reservations and conditions once we toss our hats into the political arena.

Why am I singing hosannas once more to Guv Spines?

Because despite his very hectic schedule, Guv Spines still found time to throw his unconditional support behind the staging of the Palarong Pambansa in our province starting May 6.

Isn’t that another magnificent move, awe-inspiring, to say the least?

He has already scored a string of victories under his watch at Capitolyo and, given his numerous achievements while at the helm of things, he can almost rest assured of his laurels on his shining record at governance.

For one, Gus Spines’ dogged refurbishing and relentless renovation of the Capitol alone stands as an illustrious symbol of love and affection for the rich legacy and heritage of our province.

Isn’t that heart-rending enough as Guv Spines proved once more that his love for his roots is eternal?

A lot of times, I’ve heard Raffy Baraan heap praise on Guv Spines and on people on the matter of love for one’s land of birth.

And I’m sure Malu Elduayan, the amiable Pangasinan tourism officer who is boss to both Cristina Calachan and Paul Magat, can attest to that – with pride.

Those who value their origins wear a badge of valor on their chests.

People who keep on tracing their footsteps will surely reach the apex of their dreams.

The future can only belong to those who give exceptional meaning to their past.

We can learn much from Guv Spines if we only open our eyes.

Our hosting the Palarong Pambansa is one road leading toward that direction.

Under the baton of Guv Spines, every Pangasinense is already worth a gold medal – if we only extend our all-out support to the coming Games.
