Pursue Cristy’s case versus Azkals

By Al S. Mendoza

(Congratulations to Minnie Lopez for passing the last bar exams!  Proud are Minnie’s parents, Dr. & Mrs. Fernando T. Lopez of Mangatarem, Pangasinan, whose only other child, Maricel, has also passed the board for physicians only a while back.  Two daughters, two professionals. What a feat for Doc Nanding and wife, Wilma!)

CRISTY Ramos is a match commissioner of the Asian Football Confederation.

Her position speaks volumes in the hierarchy of football officials.

Why was Cristy in the limelight recently?

Did she win the lotto?

Did she remarry (reports say her marriage to Freddie Jalasco had been annulled)?

Cristy hogged the headlines because of, yes, football.

For believing that two Azkals (Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado) had sexually harassed her, Cristy has filed sexual harassment cases against Moy and Guirado.

According to Cristy, this was what happened.

Before the Azkals were to play a game only a while back, Cristy went to the locker room of the Philippine Team.

Cristy said she knocked on the door first.

Accompanied by two male officials under her command, Cristy went inside the Azkals’ locker room once the door was opened.

As match commissioner, it was Cristy’s duty to check the credentials of the players one by one.

This was to ensure that the player to be called is really the one set to play in the scheduled game.

Player-switching, like age-cheating, has also become rampant nowadays in world football matches.

When Cristy entered the room, she said the Azkals were roughing it up like kids.

“The room was noisy,” Cristy said on GMA TV.  “Everyone was laughing, there was no discipline.  When I started calling the players one by one, Lexton Moy took a place directly to my right although it was not yet his turn.  Then he announced in a loud voice, ‘must be a Cup B!’  The room roared with laughter.”

Cup B is a bra size for ladies.

“When it was Angel Guirado’s turn to be checked,” Cristy said, “he stood in front of me clad only in his briefs, so I proceeded to inspect his ID.  Since he was much taller than me, my eyes were downcast as I scanned the card.  Obviously, the team saw malice in this and they started laughing again.”

Cristy said she always wears suits while performing her job.

Asked to comment, President Ramos, Cristy’s father, said:  “Cristy does her job well.  The Azkals should learn how to respect sports officials and they should start winning games!”

Moy and Guirado have yet to air their side.

If Moy did that to Cristy and Guirado was merely in briefs while Cristy was checking his ID, logic dictates they ought to be punished.

Players maybe excused for not winning games, but not when they harass women.

That is not only unsportsmanlike and ungentlemanly behavior, but it is blatantly barbaric and has no place in a civilized world.

If they are found guilty, too, for laughing in chorus with the obvious reason to ridicule Cristy, the entire Azkal team should suffer the full force of the law.

Always, sports is the depository of good manners and saintly breeding.
