Is the city in ruins because of father and son?
By Al S. Mendoza
AGAIN, the father and son thing.
They are almost one and the same. What the father is, so is the son.
That’s been a truism “as perennial as grass.”
A mango won’t bear a santol fruit.
A cow won’t deliver a pup.
A rosebud won’t blossom from a gumamela twig.
So, how to describe Dagupan City Mayor Benjie Lim’s son?
Brian Lim speaks and acts like a politician.
Brian Lim is a photocopy of his father mayor in all matters political.
That’s as simple as 1 plus 1 equals 2.
Mayor Lim has been wrong all along to order a gag on department heads of city hall.
Why because it is anti-city as department heads can help thresh out the kinks in the budget being proposed. And if it’s anti-city, it is, therefore, anti-people.
And if it is anti-people, it stunts the growth of the city, it puts the city into Jurassic age.
Brian Lim is a Benjie Lim mouthpiece and there’s no surprise there.
Brian Lim echoes the voice of Benjie Lim and there’s no puzzlement there.
Brian Lim mimics the idiocy of Benjie Lim and there’s no reason to doubt it as the eighth wonder of the world.
The budget of the city remains at ICU because Mayor Lim wants it that way.
Through his gag order, he has used the department heads as his dextrose for the gravely ill budget.
Why our department heads become willing suweros for a cause not worth fighting for has been the city horror all this time.
Mayor Lim a music man?
Crap.
Maybe, like his own son, he is a clown, so that the next time I do karaoke at Jimmy Ng’s Star Plaza, I’ll croon, “Send In The Clowns.”
Since he recaptured city hall, Mayor Lim limited himself to engaging ungentlemanly ways insofar as treating the city and the lady by the name of Belen Fernandez, the city’s vice mayor no less.
In effect, Mayor Lim has considered his post like fiefdom, as though he is an infallible emperor with fists of iron.
And while he is essaying the Attila The Hun-like era, who would replicate his role if not his own son, Brian?
Ermin Garcia was right. Brian Lim, the son, has just missed his chance at political stardom.
Look: Why the prodigal son stood up at all at the council to speak nonsense was such a waste of spittle.
We are all given at least three chances to shine.
Brian Lim’s first chance at political savvy was a total disaster.
When he spoke at the council, everybody wanted to hear Brian Lim say, “Hey, Dad, I speak here as your son, a young man not in a hurry to learn the ropes of leadership. But what I am seeing now is a rope twisted beyond recognition. Please straighten it out for me, me being the inheritor of the city reins, perhaps, in another time – the future leader of the city if fate wouldn’t be unkind?”
Two more bullets are left in Brian Lim’s chamber.
Oops! Wait! Just one left.
The second bullet had been misfired as well: He said he wouldn’t receive his salary as councilor for as long as the city budget remains un-passed.
Whoa! For being the perfect clone of his dad, Brian Lim deserves not a penny till the last day of his term.
Why his dad is even drawing his salary is, has been, the biggest joke in town.
Now I agree: Tell Frank Sinatra there’s no need to send in more clowns.
Two is enough.
