PANELCO I condemns assault on lineman in Anda, vows legal action
THE Pangasinan Electric Cooperative I (PANELCO I) has condemned the assault on one of its linemen who was attacked while performing post-typhoon duties in Barangay Batiarao, Anda, following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan.
According to reports, the lineman was documenting damaged electric poles when a drunk suspect suddenly struck him on the nape without provocation. The victim sustained minor injuries and was immediately given medical attention.
In a statement, PANELCO I denounced the attack and vowed to take legal action against the perpetrator. The management stressed that such acts of violence will not be tolerated, especially against employees who risk their safety to restore electricity in disaster-stricken areas.
“We will not tolerate any form of violence against our employees,” PANELCO I declared. “We are committed to ensuring that our workers are treated with respect and protected from harm while they continue their service to the community.”
The cooperative also appealed to the public for understanding and cooperation, emphasizing that their linemen are working tirelessly under dangerous conditions to bring power back to affected households.
The incident has renewed calls for stronger protection measures for utility workers, whose roles remain crucial in disaster recovery and community rebuilding efforts. (Ahikam Pasion)
