THE Highway Patrol Group (HPG) will begin strict enforcement of the mandatory motorcycle helmet law starting January 2026, a move aimed at improving road safety and reducing accident-related injuries.

Police Colonel Jaycon Ramos, chief of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit, said the crackdown will cover all major roads and urban streets, including areas near schools.

Ramos said a two-month information drive will run this November and December to educate riders on the proper use of standard helmets and warn against makeshift or substandard headgear often fashioned from plastic balls or other unsafe materials. He stressed that only helmets bearing an ICC quality seal will be considered compliant.

During the information phase, riders will receive warnings, but violators will face penalties beginning January 2026. Motorcyclists are urged to use approved helmets and observe road safety measures to avoid fines and prevent serious injuries. (Ahikam Pasion)
