Police reminder: Slow vehicles must stay on right lane
THE provincial police, in support of the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) intensified campaign and strict implementation of traffic laws, added its voice to the call for motorists to know and follow road rules.
Among the most important of these is for all slow-moving vehicles – especially tricycles, electric vehicles, bicycles, and motorcycles – to stay on the right or what is referred to as the outer lane. This improves traffic flow as faster vehicles can breeze through on the left or inner lane, as well as ensures safety for those overtaking as the driver has the proper view of what’s ahead.
“These rules are not only about compliance but, more importantly, about protecting lives and maintaining road discipline,” said Provincial Director Police Colonel Arbel Mercullo, citing that this is contained in Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
He also warned that traffic violations carry corresponding penalties.
Motorists caught obstructing traffic or ignoring traffic signs will face a fine of P1,000, while those charged with reckless driving may be fined anywhere between P2,000 and P10,000.
He further called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement in upholding traffic laws, reminding everyone that road discipline is a shared responsibility. (Ahikam Pasion)
