A road accident in Calasiao claimed the lives of three members of a family of four, with the three-year-old child as the sole survivor.

According to Police Captain Godofrey Mercado, operations officer of the Calasiao Police Station, the incident occurred when the elf-type truck, driven by Rey Maure, attempted to overtake a motorcycle while en route to Sta. Barbara.

The truck veered into the opposite lane and crashed into an oncoming bus bound for Dagupan City.

On board the truck were Maure, his live-in partner, and their two children. Responding police officers and members of the Calasiao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the victims to the hospital, but Maure, his partner, and their older child were all declared dead on arrival.

Only their youngest child, a three-year-old, survived the impact and is now reported to be in stable condition.

Seven out of the 27 bus passengers also sustained minor injuries and received medical attention. (Ahikam Pasion)
