Student injured after alleged ‘push’
A Grade 6 student from Banaoang Elementary School in Calasiao sustained head and back injuries after allegedly being pushed by a male classmate during class hours, triggering concern and outrage on social media.
Based on what has now become a viral online post by the victim’s aunt, the incident happened on July 14 wherein the student, identified as 11-year-old ‘Margie’, reportedly hit her head and back against a wall after being forcefully shoved by a classmate inside the classroom.
According to the family, the impact was so severe that Margie began experiencing blurred vision, body stiffness, and intense pain in her head and back.
However, it took about two hours before she was brought to the hospital due to unspecified delays at the school.
School officials, including the teacher and principal, declined media requests for further information and comment.
In a recent update from Margie’s family, they said she is now in stable condition, with both the CT scan and X-ray yielding normal results, but the family is now burdened with the cost of the procedures, which were not covered by PhilHealth due to Margie being treated as an outpatient. Assistance from the Malasakit Center was also reportedly unavailable.
Margie’s aunt also confirmed in a public social media post that the family has already spoken with school officials regarding the matter.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement as the incident continues to gain traction online, with calls for accountability and improved student safety measures in public schools. (Ahikam Pasion)
