Teen drowns in irrigation canal in Sta. Barbara

An 18-year-old male drowned while swimming in an irrigation canal at the height of a storm on July 21 in Barangay Botao in Sta. Barbara. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m., when the victim and several friends, aged between 13 and 20, went to the irrigation canal despite the severe weather.

Emergency responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Sta. Barbara, led by Officer Raymondo T. Santos, were immediately deployed to the area for search and retrieval operations. They were joined by members of the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Pangasinan Provincial DRRMO, and the Philippine Coast Guard.

Elderly man drowns in Lingayen while checking fish trap

A 62-year-old man drowned in Lingayen as he was retrieving fish from his trap.

According to the local police investigation, the victim left his home in Barangay Estanza at around 9:30 a.m. on July 22 to check on the fish caught in his trap, but did not come back by the afternoon, prompting his sister, Norma Aquinoy Torio, 64, to report to authorities.

A search and rescue operation was immediately launched, and shortly after, the victim’s body was discovered near his fish trap.

Minor drowns while swimming in Lingayen fishpond

A minor drowned while swimming in a fishpond in Barangay Wawa in Lingayen on July 20.

According to initial reports, the victim went out with a cousin, also a minor, for a swim at the pond where he drowned in the deep section.

The cousin rushed to seek help from nearby residents. Barangay Tanod Johny Cruz Padlan responded quickly and was able to recover the victim, but the child was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

House razed in Mapandan

A residential fire broke out in the town of Mapandan, but was quickly put out following prompt response from local authorities and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

According to the Mapandan police, the incident was reported by 40-year-old Marvin Caballero Llemos, who called for assistance after noticing the blaze in his neighborhood.

Initial investigation revealed that residents Kates Salinas Banawis, 52, and her daughter Aijine Banawis Villasin, 28, were on the second floor of their home when they noticed smoke coming from the lower portion of the house. The two quickly evacuated and also called for help.

Dispute over motorcycle repair ends in hacking

A heated argument over a motorcycle repair turned violent after a man attacked a client with a bolo, leading to his arrest by local police.

Authorities identified the suspect as Dennis Esteban, while the victims were named as Jeffrey Calderon, 35, and Mherson Cabe Calderon. According to police, the incident occurred when the two victims went to the suspect’s residence to confront him over an earlier dispute related to the repair of their motorcycles.

The incident was quickly reported, and police responded to the scene. Esteban was arrested shortly afterward.

Farmer dies from a snake bite

A 42-year-old farmer was found dead in his hut after reportedly being bitten by a snake, according to local authorities.

The victim was discovered lifeless around 8:00 a.m. by a fellow farmer who had returned to the hut where they had last seen the victim the previous day.

The victim was immediately brought to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Medical findings confirmed the cause of death as a venomous snake bite, with the lone visible wound located on the victim’s right knee.

Woman dead in tricycle accident

A 38-year-old woman was killed in a tragic road accident after the tricycle she was riding lost its chain and overturned along the national highway in Barangay Maningding.

The victim was identified as Lorna Salazar Aquino, a resident of the area. She was a passenger in a tricycle being driven by a minor, according to police reports.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the use of a motorized tricycle by a minor.
