PDEA warns: Don’t sell drugs found in seas, shores
THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Pangasinan issued a stern warning against keeping and trading illegal drugs found along the province’s coastline, stressing that anyone caught with the illicit goods will face the full force of the law.
During the turnover of recovered shabu in Barangay Boboy, Agno, on June 6, PDEA Pangasinan Provincial Chief Richie Camacho said that close coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), authorities will trace the origin of the drugs and connect other substances to the floating shabu.
On the other hand, he praised and thanked the local fishermen who voluntarily surrendered the drugs they found in the waters off Agno, which consisted of four sacks containing an estimated P360 million worth of shabu.
The agency also questioned seven fishermen who recovered the drugs about the missing contents of the sacks. According to the fishermen, two of the sacks were damaged by the propeller of their boat before they could retrieve them.
One fisherman admitted that out of curiosity, he opened one of the sacks to see what was inside. Upon realizing it contained what appeared to be shabu, he quickly tied the sack back up and reported it.
The discovery of these floating drugs has raised concerns over a potential worsening of illegal drug trafficking in coastal areas. (Ahikam Pasion)
