THE implementation of the gun ban in Region 1 during the election period from January 12 to June 11 this year netted 106 violators who have been charged, while 99 firearms of different calibers were confiscated.

P/Lt. Colonel Benigno Sumawang, Police Regional Office 1 information officer, said 95 gun ban incidents were recorded from the provinces of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte.

Of the 99 firearms seized, three were found in checkpoint operations, 53 through police response, and the rest were confiscated by policemen undertaking anti-drug operations.

Sumawang said that although the election period had already ended on June 11, police checkpoint operations will continue on various highways in the region.

At the same time, he said PRO 1 is deploying additional cops on the streets in line with the directive of newly-installed Police Chief General Nicolas Torre III to increase visibility and enhance security in communities. (Leonardo Micua)
