PPPO chief: Urdaneta barangay not a ‘drug drop-off point
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) categorically denied allegations made by Urdaneta Mayor Julio “Rammy” Parayno that a barangay in the city is a transshipment point for illegal drugs.
PPPO Director P/Col. Rollyfer Capoquian, in an interview last week, labeled Parayno’s claim as “untrue and baseless.”
The mayor earlier posted during a Facebook live session on April 29 that Barangay Catablan was an alleged “drop-off point” for illegal narcotics, and challenged the barangay chairman, Ismael Zabala, to take a drug test with him.
Zabala, who is known to be supporting Parayno’s mayoralty opponent, did not appear during the set date and time for the drug test challenge.
Capoquian said their analysis of recent anti-illegal drug buy-bust operations in the city indicates that the primary pick-up points are located along major highways.
He added that it is highly unlikely for illegal drugs to be dropped off in areas situated far from the main roads and the town proper.
The provincial police chief also clarified that while there is no confirmed presence of private armed groups in the province, they are still investigating and addressing security concerns relating to Parayno’s claim that several groups of hired killers have been contracted to kill him.
