Armed robbers escape with jewelry after shootout with cops

A robbery at a pawnshop in Pozorrubio last Tuesday escalated into a shootout between the group of five robbers and responding police officers from the Pozorrubio Police Station on Caballero Street, District 1.

The suspects forcibly entered the BHF pawn shop by smashing the glass doors and took off with P100,000 worth of jewelry.

When law enforcers arrived at the scene, the robbers opened fire, prompting a short gunfight with the responding police before the robbers escaped on motorcycles, firing their weapons as they fled.

No one was hurt, but a parked tricycle was slightly damaged by a stray bullet.

The police immediately set up checkpoints and coordinated with neighboring police stations after raising a flash alarm but the robbers managed to escape.

Crime scene processing was carried out with the assistance of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team from the Forensic Unit in Urdaneta City. Authorities obtained initial descriptions of the suspects and mapped out their escape route. (Ahikam Pasion)
