Probe underway on Sta. Maria barangay chair’s murder

AN investigation is underway into the assassination of Rolando Fernandez Albino, the barangay chair of Paitan in Sta. Maria, who was shot Tuesday morning in his community.

Witnesses said he was driving a barangay patrol tricycle, along the bypass road of Barangay Paitan when he was hailed by an unidentified man wearing a black jacket, black pants, and onboard a motorcycle.

As soon as Albino stopped at the shoulder of the road, he was shot several times by the suspect with a caliber 45 pistol who immediately fled.

Police recovered six fired cartridges at the crime scene.

The barangay chief, who was also the vice president of the town’s Liga ng mga Barangay, was rushed to the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in adjacent Tayug town but was declared dead on arrival. (Ahikam Pasion)

PRO1 calls for calm amid probe on barangay kap’s shooting

AMID tensions in the current campaign period, the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) called for calm among residents of Barangay Paitan in Sta. Maria town and assured that a thorough investigation is underway on the murder of their barangay chair on April 1.

“We urge all community members to remain calm as the investigation unfolds. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding, and we encourage anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and report it to local authorities,” PR01 Director B/Gen. Lou Evangelista said in a statement.

Paitan Chairman Rolando Fernandez Albino, 60, a former police officer, was driving a barangay tricycle patrol along the by-pass road of Barangay Paitan when an unidentified gunman hailed him then shot him several times.

“We understand that this incident has raised concerns regarding safety and security in the community. We want to assure the public that the Regional Police Office 1, in collaboration with the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office and Sta. Maria Municipal Police Station (MPS), is fully committed to an expedient and thorough investigation to bring justice to the case.” (Eva Visperas)
