Police Community Academy empowers criminology students in R1
THE Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) concluded the Police Community Academy 2.0 Bootcamp at the PRO 1 Grandstand, Camp BGen Oscar Florendo in La Union on April 11, an activity aimed at empowering criminology students and professors.
The two-day activity was organized in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 1 (CHED RO1), the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines, and Bannuar ti La Union Eagles Club.
Throughout the boot camp, 29 Higher Educational Institutions with 354 criminology students and 67 faculty members and organizers across Region 1 covered a wide range of law-enforcement related topics such as: Leadership and Patriotism Ethics and Moral Values, Handcuffing, Proper Handling of Arrest, and Stop-and-Frisk and Search-and Seizure- Exercise, and Crisis Management.
Other government agencies that provided lectures were the Commission on Population Development on Teenage Pregnancy, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Regional Office 1 on Anti-Terrorism, Human Rights, and Social Change, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency RO 1 on Drug Prevention, Education, and Awareness Campaign, Recruitment process of Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Air Force were also discussed.
A retreat on Mental and Health Wellness: Strengthening Inner Resilience was also led by Dr. Maria Bryce.
Meanwhile, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 1 showcased a demonstration on Civil Disturbance Management, Close Quarter Battle and Immediate Action Drill prior to the closing ceremony. The presentation provided students the opportunity to experience application of their studies and the importance of effective and efficient police work in the community.
“We hope this experience ignites a passion for public service among these future leaders in criminology,” PRO 1 Regional Director PBGen Lou Evangelista said, adding that he looks forward to more similar activities in the future. (Eva Visperas)
