‘Person of interest’ in Sta. Maria kap shooting identified
A person of interest in the shooting of Barangay Paitan Captain Rolando Albino in Sta. Maria has been identified, according to Pangasinan Police Provincial Director Col. Rollyfer Capoquian
In an interview, Capoquian said the evidence collected so far, including CCTV footage, and witness statements, point to the person as the potential killer of the community leader.
According to several witnesses, the suspect was seen dining at a nearby canteen before the crime, and they were able to identify his face after he removed his helmet.
Among the motives being explored are robbery, as the suspect allegedly took the victim’s wallet and its contents.
Police officials are also looking into potential business-related motives stemming from ongoing quarrying operations in Sta. Maria, and political motives as the victim is an incumbent barangay captain, and also possibly as a retaliation for his being a police officer when he served in the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Capoquian said the results of studies conducted by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Philippine National Police are still being awaited to determine if the area should be designated as an “area of concern”.
While Sta. Maria has been a quiet town, he said its as risk status could be elevated if the suspect is apprehended and the incident is proven to be politically motivated. (Ahikam Pasion)
