3 grassfires in Calasiao due to illegal garbage burning
GRASSFIRES occurred in three barangays in Calasiao on March 1 to 2, caused mainly by the illegal burning of garbage by residents, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The first reported incident was in Barangay Banaoang, followed by another one in Barangay Nalsian on March 1. The following day, a grassfire occurred on a vacant lot in Barangay Mancup, which took firefighters more than four hours, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., to put out.
“Grassfire spreads quickly and causes large fires, since the area of the incident is wide and it is close to a subdivision and houses. However, BFP personnel responded quickly, which was the reason the fire did not spread further,” said FO2 Leslie Manipon, Public Information Officer of the BFP Calasiao.
The BFP reminded the public to avoid burning garbage, which is illegal under Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. (Kim Gealogo)
