THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is still investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in a subdivision in Barangay Tapuac, Dagupan City, where the house of an Indian national was severely damaged.

According to Fire Chief Inspector Michael John Escaño, head of BFP Dagupan, the second floor of the house owned by Ligraj Ramchandhani sustained major damage, while the first floor was slightly burned.

The family was out of the country at the time of the fire and their stay-out caretaker, Joselito Ordoñez, just turned on some lights.

The City DRRMO (City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office) and Panda Fire Brigade quickly responded to the scene, preventing further damage. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Meanwhile, Escaño said this is the first reported structural fire in February, but there have been a few grassfire incidents caused by the city government’s grass-cutting program in high-risk barangays.

He added that residents should unplug appliances when not in use, especially when leaving the house, to prevent short circuits and fires and to avoid multitasking while cooking. (Ahikam Pasion)
