THE Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) is currently assessing supposed threats against candidates for the May 2025 elections who formally requested protection in the run-up to the campaign period to voting day.

In an interview, P/Colonel Rollyfer Capoquian, PPPO director, said they are meticulously evaluating the claimed threats to the candidates’ lives to determine the necessity of security measures.

A joint peace and security coordinating meeting involving the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will be held to discuss areas of concern that may require additional security measures.

So far, COMELEC Region 1 said there have been no reported threats to the security of candidates in the four provinces of the region. (Ahikam Pasion)
