‘Onia’ task force probes Umingan councilor’s murder
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office has organized ‘Onia’ Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) named after Councilor and Abono Party-list National President Ponciano Onia, who was killed in a gun attack in Umingan on December 7.
According to P/Lieutenant Tricia Guzman, spokesperson for the SITG, investigators have identified at least one person of interest and are currently looking into the connection with Onia’s murder.
While she acknowledged the possibility of a political motive behind the attack, she said investigators are exploring multiple angles to determine the exact motive behind the crime.
The focused investigation involves close coordination with Onia’s family and others who may have relevant information regarding the case.
Onia was ambushed and shot multiple times at approximately 7:45 p.m. in Barangay Lubong while he was returning home to Barangay San Leon in his SUV, accompanied by two employees.
Following the shooting, the assailant fled the scene on a motorcycle. The recovered shell casings are undergoing cross-matching as part of the investigation. (Ahikam Pasion)
