Pangasinan PNP lacks personnel

THE Pangasinan Provincial Police lacks personnel, a reflection of the national situation, where the force falls short of the ideal ratio of police officers to civilians at 1:500, According to Police Colonel Rollyfer Capoquian.

“While policing duties are often associated with street patrols, it’s essential to recognize that police officers also have office responsibilities,” he said.

These tasks include administrative work, report writing, and other behind-the-scenes functions.

In an effort to address this gap, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting a recruitment process to bolster the province’s police force.

Capoquian said they have also put in requests for complementary logistics, including firearms and computers used for generating reports.

In terms of mobility and access to patrol vehicles at local PNP stations, the provincial police chief said, “Local government units have been supportive, providing mobile patrols to enhance police presence.”

To further improve operational capacity, the PNP is actively exploring ways to increase the availability of vehicles, especially for specialized units like the SWAT teams. (Ahikam Pasion)
