Retired soldiers nabbed for firing on farmers
FORMER members of the Philippine Army and Philippine Navy were among the 11 persons apprehended by local police in Bayambang after they allegedly opened fire on a group of farmers in Barangay San Gabriel 2nd, leaving one victim injured.
The motive for the attack is still under investigation.
The victim, Jeffrey Lasquite Patungan, a 32-year-old farmer, was struck in the right thigh during the incident.
According to witnesses, a group of armed men arrived at the family-owned farmland, where Patungan and other farmers were working, and one of them fired shots.
During a follow-up operation, police arrested all eleven suspects and seized several firearms, including shotguns and a .45 caliber pistol, along with ammunition and magazines.
The suspects were identified as Albert Tayudin Asuncion 54, retired Philippine Army and current security guard; Augusto Lafuente Menor, 62, retired Philippine Army and caretaker; Amando Culili Mamauac, 55, retired Philippine Marines and caretaker; Joselito Taoguen Nitura, 60, retired Philippine Marines and caretaker.
Others were Nelson Javier Cabo, 64, security guard; Mark Jake Narag Aguilar, 28, caretaker; Vincent Javier Reyes, 28, caretaker; Allan Datarlo Luna, 49, security guard; Renier Camanse SeƱas, 23, caretaker; Sonny Seldoma Pitogo, 34, caretaker; and John Lowie Rumbaoa Codina, 21.
Authorities are preparing legal charges against the apprehended individuals. (Ahikam Pasion)
