Finnish drowns in Hundred Islands
A 44-year-old Finnish man drowned after diving into the water from a motorized banca while en route to Romulo Island in the Hundred Islands, Alaminos City on August 31.
At around 11:30 a.m., the victim, Simon Taneli Tynys, a native of Jyvaskyla, Finland, and resident of Barangay Buenlag, Calasiao, eagerly jumped off the rented boat he took with companions towards the island.
A few minutes later, one of his companions, Dinah Riel, 38, also from Buenlag, Calasiao, noticed Tynys was floating unconscious. Local police and Alaminos City rescuers promptly retrieved him and brought him to the shoreline for first aid, but he was unresponsive.
Tynys was then rushed to the Western Pangasinan District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. (Eva Visperas)
