THE Dagupan City Prosecutors Office has recommended the filing of charges for reckless imprudence resulting in injuries and property damage against Councilor Maria Librada Fe ‘Dada’ Reyna-Macalanda over a driving incident on August 7.

In a resolution dated August 22, 2024 signed by Prosecutor Attorney Gerard Babate and approved by Assistant City Prosecutor Officer-in-Charge Editha Bejar-Segundo, a copy of which was obtained by the PUNCH, Reyna was charged based on a complaint filed by Arminda Paragas Sinlao of Dagupan City and Pauline Joy Nuevo of Agno.

The two complainants were among the three injured after a van driven by the councilor, who reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel, caused a serious mishap in Barangay Tapuac in mid-afternoon of August 7.

Nuevo, a college student, was the first to be hit when the van suddenly swerved in the direction of the sidewalk where she was walking, causing multiple physical injuries that required hospitalization for five days.

The van driver by Reyna-Macalanda then crashed into the parked car of 42-year-old Sinlao, who was seated at the driver’s seat. The impact pushed Sinlao’s vehicle towards a parked tricycle, whose driver was also hurt.

Sinlao also suffered multiple physical injuries that required medical attention for 15 days while her vehicle incurred damages estimated at P285,870.00.

In his resolution, Babate said there is sufficient prima facie evidence to file the case. (Leonardo Micua
