Jingle composer shot dead along Binmaley baywalk
A known jingle composer and chiropractor was shot dead on August 6 around 6:50 p.m. along the Binmaley Baywalk .
The victim, Tony Joe Coquia, 33, a resident of Barangay Libsong West, Lingayen, was shot multiple times by Billy Jay Esguerra, 24, a land surveyor from Paras St., Barangay Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City, and another still unidentified person.
Initial police investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect knew each other and had agreed to meet at the location to resolve differences.
After their conversation, Coquia walked back to his vehicle, where the suspect followed and shot him with an undetermined caliber of firearm before fleeing in a dark blue Sedan.
Coquia was rushed to Nazareth General Hospital by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office team, accompanied by police personnel, but was declared dead on arrival.
The incident was witnessed by the victim’s wife and a male friend.
Coquia was the composer and the voice behind Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez’s popular jingle “Isa pa, Isa pa” in the 2022 election. (Eva Visperas)
