Mangaldan needs more cops

THE Sangguniang Bayan of Mangaldan and the town police station asked the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) to assign additional policemen to the town, after two separate killings of barangay officials over a sixty-day period.

The SB recently passed its Resolution No. 2024-002, authored by Councilor Aldrin Soriano, urging P/ Colonel Jeff Fanged, PPPO director, to assign more police personnel to Mangaldan.

P/ Lt. Colonel Roldan Cabatan, Mangaldan acting chief of police, said the town only has 76 policemen stationed in the town making the present ratio to only 1:1,356 when the ideal ratio is 1:500.

It means the town needs at least 200 police personnel assigned to the town.

The town made the local headlines twice in two months, first on December 7, 2023, when Barangay Poblacion Chairwoman Melinda ‘Tonet’ Morillo was killed in Barangay Tebag and on January 02, 2024 when Barangay Guilig number one Kagawad Romeo ‘Pudong’ del Campo, was shot in Barangay Salay.

A 50-year woman was also killed by her former live-in partner in Barangay Salay.

While the separate incidents are considered isolated, the Mangaldan PNP still considers the town generally peaceful.

Soriano also filed another resolution urging the Mangaldan PNP to establish Community Precincts in the northern and southern boundaries of town to enable police to improve response times during emergencies. (Ahikam Pasion)
