NBI entraps couple selling baby online for P300k
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) district office in Alaminos City arrested a couple from Kalinga province who posted on social media that they are selling their three-week old baby for P300,000.
Atty. Fabienne Matib, agent-in-charge of NBI in Alaminos City, identified those arrested as Reynante Laddaran and his live-in partner Margie Lawoag, both residents of Rizal town in Kalinga.
Both were arrested during an entrapment operation inside a restaurant in Alaminos City following the complaint of Project Rescue Children, a Non-Government Organization (NGO), whose members were alarmed by the social media post of the couple that they are selling their baby.
The couple was promptly arrested after they handed over the infant to an NBI agent who posed as the buyer in exchange of boodle money from the agent.
According to Atty. Matib, financial problem was the reason why the couple was selling their baby online.
The suspects were charged with violation of Republic Act No. 11862 or the Anti-Trafficking of Persons Act and Republic Act 7610 or an Act extending the special protection of children against abuse, exploitation and discrimination.
The NBI turned over the couple’s three-month old baby to the Department for Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Alaminos City while the suspects were temporarily detained at the Alaminos City PNP facility.(IFM Radio Dagupan/ John Caranto)
