Crackdown on clandestine firecracker factories in Dagupan ordered
MAYOR Belen Fernandez ordered the police and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to seek out clandestine firecracker factories in Dagupan following a big firecracker explosion in Barangay Malued on Christmas Day where five persons, including a child, were hurt and seven houses destroyed.
Exasperated over the incident, Fernandez called on all barangay captains to identify and report persons engaged in the manufacture of firecrackers that have no permits from the Dagupan Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and the city government.
P/Lt. Colonel Brendon Palisoc, Dagupan police chief, confirmed that no permit was issued by his office to any person in Dagupan seeking to manufacture firecrackers for commercial purposes.
Mayor Fernandez asked the barangay captains to be vigilant against underground production of firecrackers and report them to the police.
Fernandez earlier designated a parking area in front of the office of the National Bureau of Investigation in Sitio Babaliwan in Barangay Poblacion Oeste as the only designated selling area for firecrackers obtained from authorized manufacturers in Bocaue, Bulacan.
All firecracker and pyrotechnics vendors in the selling must secure a permit from the LGU, present a pail of water or sand to be used in case of fire.
All vendors selling firecrackers with a permit outside the designated selling area will also be arrested. (Leonardo Micua)
