Pangasinan Barangays now 90% drug cleared – PDEA
THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has confirmed that only ten percent of barangays in Pangasinan have not been cleared of illegal drugs.
This was revealed by PDEA-Pangasinan provincial officer Rechie Camacho, in an interview Tuesday, September 26.
Camacho said 130 out of 1,364 barangays in Pangasinan remain drug affected. Dagupan barangays are included in the list, due to the lack of a Balay Silangan Reformation Center.
Among the 48 towns and cities, 29 have been declared drug cleared, including Santo Tomas which has been drug-free from the start.
Among the drug-clear and drug-free towns and cities are Aguilar, Alaminos City, Alcala, Anda, Asingan, Balungao, Basista, Bayambang, Bugallon, Burgos, Calasiao, Labrador, Laoac, Lingayen, Mabini, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Mangatarem, Mapandan, Natividad, Rosales, San Manuel, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Sison, Tayug, Urbiztondo, Villasis, and Santo Tomas.
A drug-cleared area refers to areas previously classified as drug affected, and underwent a Barangay Drug Clearing (BDC) Program, and has been cleared by the Regional Oversight Committee on BDC.
A drug-free area, on the other hand, refers to an unaffected area that has been vetted and confirmed by the ROCBDC.
As of this writing, Camacho said they are waiting for other towns and cities to submit their applications to be declared drug-cleared.
Camacho urged the public to help them in their campaign against illegal drugs.
He said individuals may report drug-related or suspicious activities to them via their Facebook Account. Camacho assured them of their anonymity.
Meanwhile, Camacho also called out on LGUs who slack in their anti-illegal drugs campaign.
“Pwede po silang tumawag sa amin at makipagtulungan na mapahinto ang iligal na droga sa lugar nila. Tawag lang naman po ang kailangan, gagalaw kami agad kasama nila”, he said. (Ahikam Pasion)
