DPWH recovers stolen manhole covers in Dagupan
THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) office in Lingayen reclaimed a number of manhole covers that were stolen from various roads in Dagupan City.
The manhole covers, made of cast iron, were discovered in a junk shop owned by Alfonso Martinez Aguilar, a resident of Barangay Lucao, Dagupan City.
Aguilar reported to the police that the manhole covers had been sold to him by an individual named ‘Roger,’ who frequently sold stolen items in junk shops in the city.
Recovered items included a 31″x31″ manhole cover valued at PHP 10,000 and three 23″x23″ covers worth approximately PHP 7,000 each.
Before recovering the manhole covers, the Dagupan City PNP informed junk shops in the city and neighboring areas to be on the lookout for the manhole covers.
‘Roger’ was arrested on Tuesday morning, October 10, and is facing theft charges.
The manhole covers, owned by a telecommunications company, had gone missing in the previous weeks, leading to potential accidents.
To prevent accidents, the DPWH had placed metal plates over the open manholes, and the recovered manhole covers will be returned to the telecommunications company following the proper documentation. (Ahikam Pasion)
