“INVESTMENT ADVISER” IDENTIFIED

THE Rosales Police Station continues to gather more evidence and testimonies from victims of an investment scam that victimized more than 50 town residents for the filing of criminal cases against the suspected perpetrator.

P/Major Felimon Oligo Jr., Rosales chief of police, said cases of large-scale estafa against suspect Joanna Marie Cabaddu, 22, a resident of Barangay Balincanaway in Rosales, have been forwarded to the provincial prosecutor office initially.

As of last week, the Rosales PNP documented six complaints of six victims out of more than 50 who reported the scam but have yet to produce proofs of money transfer or financial transactions with the suspect.

Cabaddu was also invited to the Rosales PNP to face the complaints lodged against her even as she claimed she was also a victim of some people who, she said, she didn’t’ meet personally.

Oligo and the investigators, however, viewed it only as a convenient alibi.

Cabaddu is the alleged mastermind of an “online paluwagan” scam, enticing investors to participate in the ‘paluwagan‘ that guaranteed them full return of their ‘investment’ plus high interest over a period of time.

Many reportedly received their promised interest earnings but this stopped when Cabaddu stopped paying the promised earnings since June.

Oligo said one victim participated in the scheme with P10 million pesos. Most of her victims were teachers, retirees and students. Oligo urged other victims to come forward and lodge their complaints.

The modus operandi was to block the ‘investor’ after an initial earning is paid then eventually be blocked off.

It will be recalled that Rosales Mayor Liam Cezar already released a statement on June 27 denouncing the scam that targeted local residents.

Cabaddu was holding office for the PNJS Investment in Rosales. Oligo warned residents against easy-money schemes being floated by “satisfied” investors.  (Ahikam Pasion)
