Ma, daughter dead, son injured in Urdaneta shooting
A CRIME of passion, says policemen.
Two persons died, while one was rushed to the hospital after a shooting incident in Barangay Nancamaliran East, Urdaneta City Tuesday night, June 13.
P/Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence Keith Calub, officer-in-charge at the Urdaneta City Police Station, said the victims Josefina Mercado Manzano, and daughter Mary Ann Manzano, were shot dead by suspect Diosdado Escalona, 60; while her son Adrian Escalona was injured.
Calub said Mary Ann and suspect Diosdado, a tricycle driver, were having a heated argument in their house, as Diosdado suspects Mary Ann to be having an illicit affair.
“Nakainom yung suspek nang maganap ang insidente”, said Calub.
When Josefina, Mary Ann’s mother, tried to intervene, Diosdado took out a gun and pointed it towards the mother and daughter.
Diosdado and Mary Ann’s son Adrian soon tried to pacify his raging father, but was hit in the head. Diosdado soon shot Mary Ann and Josefina several times.
They were rushed to the hospital but Mary Ann and Josefina were declared dead on arrival, while Adrian was traumatized by the incident, and was unable to talk while being treated.
Police immediately made a follow-up operation and Diosdado was eventually arrested.
Police recovered one caliber nine-millimeter pistol, loaded with five bullets from Diosdado.
Four fired cartridges and one slug were recovered by authorities during the investigation at the crime scene.
Calub said the suspect said the pistol was provided by his former employer as his driver and security guard but had not returned it since he resigned.
Diosdado said he was drunk during the incident.
Police filed murder charges against him. (Ahikam Pasion)
