Bautista town mayor choked, punched in rumble
BLESSED are the peacemakers because they get hurt.
This was the case of Bautista town Mayor Joseph Espino who attempted to break up a rumble between two warring groups.
Investigation showed the town was holding its SK Night in the municipal gymnasium as part of its town fiesta, when 20-year-old Maricel Todio, resident of Barangay Darawey in Bayambang town, was hit in her head with a liquor bottle by Jay-Ar Gonzales, 36, farmer and a resident of Barangay Cacandongan in Bautista.
This immediately resulted in a commotion inside the venue that caught the attention of Espino, who rushed to the scene.
Espino tried to pacify the opposing groups only to find himself being grabbed and choked by Gonzales. He was hospitalized.
Another suspect, Wilmar Gonzales, 45, resident of Barangay Cacandongan, joined the fray, and punched Espino.
Police responded to the scene, and arrested the troublemakers. The two Gonzaleses were charged with Direct Assault. (Ahikam Pasion)
