THEFT or inside job?

This, after a Chinese engineer working with a sub-contractor at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Labrador, reported he lost more than P1 million to thieves who broke into his room at the house that he and his two companions are renting.

But after the Labrador Police Station and the Provincial  Forensic Unit of the Scene of the Crime Office (SOCO) began its investigation of the reported heist, the alleged victim/complainant showed disinterest in having the incident further investigated.

The complainant Ye Lou, single, an electrical engineer of Power China, a sub-contractor of NGCP, has been renting a house in Barangay Gonzalo, Labrador, together with his two co-workers, Peng Cailu, 21; and Jen Zeng, 21, also Chinese nationals.

Ye Lou claimed that when he and his two companions left for Manila 5:00 a.m. on December 23, he left a bag containing cash amounting to more than P1 million inside his room.

Upon their return to Labrador on December 27, Ye Lou claimed the black bag and the more than P1 million cash he left inside his room was missing. He asked Jeng Zeng and Peng Cailu to help him look for the missing bag, but to no avail.

They reported the loss to the Labrador Police Station and the Provincial Forensic Unit of the SOCO (Scene of the Crime Office) was called in.

After initial crime processing by SOCO, the police recommended that he and his two Chinese companions undergo polygraph examination because of conflicting statements from witnesses.

Ye Lou reportedly lied that he left his room and the back door of their rented house unlocked to allow their housekeeper to enter and clean the house while they were in Manila.

Further investigation showed that Ye Lou’s claim that the bag was missing was disputed by Jessie Tillada, 41, company driver of Power China, because after encashing a check on December 22 at the BDO branch in Dagupan City, they proceeded to NGCP in Labrador and was seen carrying a bag.

Other workers of Power China also claimed they saw Ye Lou in NGCP on December 22 holding this time an eco-bag presumably containing the money. But when the workers asked for their salaries and 13th month pay, he told them the company had not sent their salary and bonus.

It was then when Ye Lou showed disinterest in having the incident further investigated but

the Labrador Police continues its investigation to validate Chinese national’s claim that he was a victim of robbery in the town. (Leonardo Micua)
