THE 18 quarantine points installed in various parts in the province will remain despite the easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, and this time as police checkpoints.

According to Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) Director P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, while the number of COVID-19 cases in the province are decreasing and, therefore, no longer considered a threat to public health, Fanged said the quarantine points will continue to serve as anti-criminality checkpoints.

The new policy was relayed by Fanged to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during its regular session last Monday, January 23.

He said 16 of the 18 quarantine points are controlled by the Police Regional Office I, while the remaining two are under the control of PPPO.

There are 73 police personnel currently manning all checkpoints to ensure effective containment of criminal activities.

He said a number of suspected drug peddlers were already caught and arrested at the checkpoints. (Ahikam Pasion)
