ONE of the three prime suspects in the slaying of journalist Virgilio Maganes last 2020 was nabbed by authorities in Quirino province.

P/Major Ria Tacderan, public information officer of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) said suspect Noe Ducay aka ‘Owing’, 45, was arrested by policemen in Aglipay, Quirino province.

“Naglalakad siya sa tabi ng kalsada sa naturang lugar nang ito po ay lapitan at arestuhin ng mga tropa natin. Hindi po pumalag ang suspek,” said Tacderan in an interview.

Ducay was identified as the triggerman by witnesses and his co-accused in the Maganes slay.

The Provincial Prosecution Office filed murder raps against Ducay, Romar Bustillos, and one John Doe.

It will be recalled that on November 10, 2020, Maganes, a resident of Barangay San Blas in Villasis town, was shot dead by motorcycle riding hitmen.

He was shot six times while walking home from a nearby sari-sari store.

In 2016, Maganes was also a target of an attempt on his life while traveling to Dagupan, riding his motorcycle. He survived the attack by playing dead after being hit by the gunman.

This was not the first time that Ducay was arrested by authorities. In December 2020, Ducay was nabbed after a search warrant was served but managed to post bail before the murder charge could be filed against him. He went into hiding since.

Investigation showed Ducay was a member of a gun-for-hire group operating in Pangasinan and adjacent provinces.

According to Tacderan, the police received a tip in 2021 confirming that he was hiding in Quirino province. This led to an operation that resulted in his arrest.

Bustillos, who allegedly served as the spotter, was also arrested in 2020. (Ahikam Pasion)
