Pangasinan PNP files charges vs Facebook poster
FAKE KIDNAPPING POST
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) filed raps against a 25-year-old woman in Pozorrubio town after purveying fake kidnapping news that went viral on social media.
Mary Joy Estaris, a resident of Barangay Casanfernandoan, was charged with the violation of the Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code in Relation to Section 6 of the Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
P/Major Ria Tacderan, PPPO public information officer, said the suspect, under the Facebook account “Amyr Jhoy Docusin Estaris,” posted on social media that she was kidnapped by unidentified men on board a black van, but managed to escape them. This made rounds on social media, prompting the PNP to take action.
Upon further investigation and checking of CCTV footages, PPPO determined that the information was fake.
The investigation led to Estaris as the person behind the Facebook account.
PPPO Director P/ Jeff Fanged, in an interview earlier, asserted that there are no kidnapping incidents or kidnapping groups operating in Pangasinan.
Fanged also warned fake news purveyors that the fabricated Pozorrubio kidnapping case should serve as a lesson to everyone who causes fear, panic, alarm, and anxiety by posting baseless and fabricated incidents on social media. (Ahikam Pasion)
