Pangasinan PNP: No kidnapping cases in province
FAKE NEWS FROM SOCMED
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) vehemently denies the alleged instances of kidnapping spreading throughout the province, citing them all as hoaxes and hyped fake news.
In an interview with PNP provincial director P/Colonel Jeff Fanged last Tuesday, August 23, confirmed that the alleged cases of kidnapping and attempted kidnapping posted in social media were false. Proof? No one came to the PNP for assistance, and no police blotters contained any report.
Separate validations on several alleged instances reveal that the social media posts were not legitimate and made-up.
Police also identified two individuals from Binmaley and Labrador who were allegedly behind the said posts.
One of the individuals admitted that he only saw a screenshot with no source, and posted it on his Facebook account.
In separate interviews, Binmaley PNP chief P/Lt. Col. Genevive Poblete and Dagupan PNP officer-in-charge P/Lt. Col Vicente Castor said the posters that spread the fake news were “irresponsible that needlessly instilled fear in the public.”
P/Major Ria Tacderan, PPPO information officer, said the netizens posted and shared the fake news have deleted their posts and apologized for their action.
Fanged said despite the posts being hoaxes, the police do not take such reports lightly and immediately probe the credibility of the news and the sources to ensure the public’s safety.
Fanged also urged the public, particularly teachers, parents, and students to stay vigilant and to report suspicious activities or individuals in their areas. (Ahikam Pasion)
