THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Dagupan police dismantled another drug den in Dagupan City that led to the arrests of six individuals, among them the den maintainer, in a drug buy-bust operation on Burgos Street, Barangay 4, during the wee hours of July 7.

Authorities arrested Dennis de Guzman, 53, the alleged drug den maintainer; Jeffry de Vera 27, of Babasit, Manaoag; Benedict Operaña, 47, of Barangay Mayombo, Dagupan City; Ranillo Fernandez, 43, resident of AB Fernandez East, Dagupan City; Joerico Buenaventura, 43, of Barangay Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City; and Joy Paras, 33, resident of Bonuan Gueset.

PDEA operatives bought one heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu from De Guzman in his house, while the five others were seen inside.

De Guzman’s house apparently has been operating as a drug den, where customers can hold pot sessions.

One-stop shop yung bahay niya [De Guzman]. Naaktuhan namin na may lima pang nandoon, tumitira ng droga kaya hinuli din sila,” said Rechie Camacho, PDEA Pangasinan provincial officer.

Seized after the buy-bust operation were sachets of shabu weighing 15 grams, with P102,000 street value.

Background check on the suspects reveal that all of them, except for Joerico Buenaventura, have had records of arrests due to illegal drug peddling. Cases were either dismissed or had availed of plea bargaining,

De Guzman was previously arrested in Isabela, but after his release, he returned to drug peddling, and has been operating in Dagupan and in nearby towns.

The suspects are now under PDEA custody, and charges against them have been filed in violation of RA 9165. (Ahikam Pasion)
