Ex-Army soldier in drug trade arrested
A dismissed Philippine Army soldier was arrested following a search conducted by joint elements of the police in his house in Barangay San Leon, Umingan on May 10.
Arrested by the police was Christian Velo, 40, who was dismissed from the service for his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
The search warrant, issued by the executive judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 51 in Tayug town for violation of Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Illegal Possession of Dangerous Drugs) was implemented by joint elements of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Provincial Intelligence Unit, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, SWAT and the Umingan police.
Velo is listed as a high value individual (HVI) target and tagged as co-leader of the Valera drug group subject of the police’s Coplan Blood Diamond.
Seized from his house were five-small heat-sealed sachets containing shabu, an improvised Caliber 22 rifle, one steel magazine assembly for Caliber 22, one ammunition for Caliber 22 and five ammunition for Caliber 5.56 (M16) rifle.
Cases for violation of RA 9165 and RA 10591 were filed against suspect. (Leonardo Micua)
