Ranking police officer mauls cop manning checkpoint
A PATROLMAN manning a Comelec checkpoint in Dagupan City was allegedly assaulted by a police officer after an altercation over a traffic incident Thursday afternoon, February 17.
The PUNCH was able to secure a spot report from a blotter entry at the Dagupan City Police Station about the incident at the COMELEC checkpoint at the Lucao Border Quarantine Control Point, headed by P/Lt. Joy Salvador.
The checkpoint in Lucao has been noted for its heavy volume of traffic during normal days owing to meticulous examinations by checkpoint personnel.
At around 6:33 P.M., P/Major Rommel Bagsic, currently assigned at Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, and driving a Toyota Innova, was irked when a van blocked his way.
When P/SSg Vic Baniqued and Patrolman Rocky Guarin approached to help resolve the situation, Bagsic allegedly insulted them for their inefficiency.
Senior policemen in the area acknowledged Bagsic as a senior police officer despite wearing civilian clothes and saluted him, but Guarin, a rookie, was cautious after the mouth lashing he received
Bagsic, upon seeing Guarin’s hand on his holster, stepped out of his car and approached Guarin and instructed the latter to proceed to a nearby kitchen owned by Barangay Kapitan Lino Fernandez.
While walking towards there, Bagsic punched Guarin on his nape while reportedly continuously cussing. He again hit Guarin on the head in the presence of Barangay Tanods, POSO personnel, and civilians.
Bagsic was eventually pacified by Salvador, but Bagsic ordered Guarin to report to Pangasinan PPO.
The PUNCH tried to get Bagsic’s side but none was issued. (Ahikam Pasion)
