THREE days after the simultaneous checkpoint operations of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) was launched together with COMELEC and the Philippine Army, more than a thousand violators of the curfew ordinance in the province, the gun ban and other measures in support of the anti-criminality campaign have been arrested.

P/Lt. Col. Ferdinand de Asis, information officer of P PPO, said 1,060 violators have been apprehended over the three day period January 9 -11: 300 on January 9, 462 on January 10, and 298 on January 11.

The apprehensions range from violation of curfew ordinance to motorists and motorcycle riders driving without licenses.

P/Colonel Richmond Tadina, PPPO provincial director, said his command is focused not only on strict enforcement of the election gun ban but other laws and ordinances that impact on criminality in the province particularly during the campaign and election period.

Tadina further said checkpoints will be set up throughout the province simultaneously at a time coordinated and relayed to all police stations several times a day.

“The intensified use of checkpoints will last until June 8, 2022”, said Tadina.

For transparency purposes, policemen on duty are required to wear body cameras procured by the PNP.

Since each police station is provided at least one body camera with transmission capability by Camp Crame, a feed of the checkpoint will be transmitted in real-time and viewed by PNP personnel in Camp Crame.

Other body cameras without transmission capabilities to record are placed in local police stations for file transfer purposes.

Tadina urged the public to cooperate with checkpoint personnel. (Ahikam Pasion)
