IS Dagupan back as haven of illegal drugs in Pangasinan and Region 1?

This is being looked into by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after three priority drug targets in Region 1 were arrested separately by the Dagupan police.

The arrests conducted in coordination PDEA last week December in separate buy-bust operations in Dagupan City led to the arrests of Isidro Caita Jr., 37, a cellphone technician, who was arrested in Barangay Caranglaan, Dagupan City at past 2:00 a.m. on December 5, along with his live-in partner Esperanza Talay, 34, both of Barangay Coliling, San Carlos City.

Both suspects were arrested after they sold a sachet containing shabu to an undercover policeman. Seized by elements of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Dagupan police from the two suspects were 59 grams of shabu with street value of over P400,000.

Caita was previously arrested for violation of  Republic Act 9165 on March 24, 2015 and was incarcerated but was released from the Bureau pf Jail Management and Penology after he signed a plea bargaining agreement with the court. However, he continued his drug dealing activities upon his release.

He and Talay were charged with violation of Section 5 under Article II of RA 9165.

Arrested the day before in another buy-bust operation in Barangay Tambac was Rene Bermudez, alias “Rene”, 27, of Sitio Aling in Pantal. Dagupan City, also listed as another priority target in the region. Lawmen recovered from him 14 grams of shabu with street value of P90,000.

Also arrested on December 4 in Lucao, Dagupan City was Christian Bermudez, alias “Bitog”, also of Sitio Aling in Pantal, also a regional priority drug target. Seized from him were 11 grams of shabu with street value, of P7,480.

Meanwhile, arrested on December 2 in Bonuan Boquig, Dagupan City was Demi Jerome Gregorio, 24, of Sitio Sabangan in Bonuan Gueset, a drug personality in the city from whom lawmen recovered one sachet of suspected shabu with a weight of 0.6 gram valued at P4,000. (Leonardo Micua)
