Carinderia owner arrested for selling dog meat
THE National Bureau of Investigation – Dagupan District Office (NBI-DADO) arrested the owner of an eatery in Mapandan town, following an entrapment operation on Wednesday, October 13.
Agent in charge Mark Caceres said Reah Ellasus, a resident of Mapandan town, was arrested following complaints from concerned citizens that her canteen is selling dog meat, which is prohibited by the law.
After validating and confirming the complaints, the NBI-DADO, along with the Department of Agriculture Region 1, and the National Meat Inspection Service decided on an entrapment operation.
Operatives bought PHP 500 worth of cooked meat from Ellasus from the eatery. During the arrest, authorities recovered two dog heads, eight legs, and other cooked dog meat.
Ellasus was filed charges in violation of the Animal Welfare Act. She, however, was able to post bail.
Caceres urged the public not to slaughter and eat dog meat. According to the Animal Welfare Act, consumption of meats other than cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits, carabaos, and horses are considered unlawful. (Ahikam Pasion)
