Public cautioned against TUPAD recruiter

THE public need not believe an individual or group who tells would-be victims they are engaged in recruiting people wanting to become beneficiaries of the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers or TUPAD of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 1.

Lingayen-Dagupan archdiocese stops cemetery arch demolition

THE demolition of a century-old arch at the entrance of the Binmaley Catholic Cemetery, now considered a relic and a cultural heritage, was stopped by the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan because of criticism on social media.

In an interview with Catholic Cemetery Parish Coordinator Catalino Parotcha, he confirmed that the Archdiocese ordered a stop to the demolition and to gather information about the edifice that needs to be known by the public.

Personally believing that the arch has no historical or heritage value, Parocha said one half of the structure will only be demolished to allow the entry of trucks into the cemetery to deliver backfilling materials needed to improve the hallowed ground. (Jam Victorio)

Mangaldan market woes bared

A recent inspection of the Mangaldan Public Market uncovered several pressing concerns, including a leaking roof in the meat section, a clogged drainage canal in the fish section, and the indiscriminate disposal of empty boxes. Officials warned that the scattered boxes pose a potential fire hazard, especially if ignited by a carelessly discarded cigarette butt.

In response, the local government of Mangaldan launched an all-out cleanup drive inside the public market on January 8 and vowed to immediately address the leaking roofs and clogged drainage. Authorities are also committed to enforcing stricter cleanliness measures to ensure a safer and more orderly market environment for both vendors and buyers. (Denisse Brillante)

Ban sought on fish loading at Dagupan Plaza

AN ordinance proposed by Councilor Luis Samson Jr. seeking to permanently ban the loading and unloading of fish in front of the Dagupan City Plaza was discussed during a committee hearing of the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Tuesday. The measure stemmed from complaints of nearby residents who said they could no longer withstand the daily stench caused by fish trading activities in the area.

Proposed as the new loading and unloading zone is an open space in front of the former NBI office along A. B. Fernandez Avenue, with the Pantal Road dike leading to the Dagupan Fish Market identified as an alternative route for delivery trucks and porters. Another option being considered is the relocation of the entire fish market to another site to help ease traffic congestion in the city’s central business district. (Aaron Navelgas)
