THE local government of Malasiqui is working round the clock to provide relief and restore normalcy after Typhoon “Uwan” brought extensive damage to homes and farmlands in the town.

Mayor Alfie Soriano reported that the typhoon left a trail of destruction, damaging 415 houses—some totally destroyed, while others lost their roofs or sustained partial damage.

The agricultural sector also suffered heavily, with crops such as mango, corn, rice, and tomatoes devastated by strong winds. The hardest-hit areas were Barangays Aliaga and Malimpic, including nearby hilly parts where crops were flattened.

Soriano said nearly all of the town’s 73 barangays were affected by the storm.

Power restoration efforts are ongoing, with about 60 percent of electricity already restored. The local government expects full power service within four days.

Despite the widespread damage, only 13 families were evacuated to centers in Barangays Butao and Barang. They have since returned home as floodwaters subsided.

Clearing operations are continuing, although three barangays remain difficult to access due to fallen mango and acacia trees. Mayor Soriano assured residents that all roads will soon be cleared.

Classes in the town resumed on Wednesday, November 12. (Ahikam Pasion)
