SEVERAL low-lying barangays in Calasiao have been submerged as the water level in the Marusay River reached a critical point, according to the latest report from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

The MDRRMO reported that the river’s water level has risen to eight feet above normal, threatening communities along its banks.

Christine Joy Soriano, spokesperson of the Calasiao MDRRMO, said that while the river’s level slightly receded from its peak of 8.7 feet on Wednesday, November 12, it remains dangerously high.

The persistent flooding has caused significant overflow in Barangays Lasip, Lumbang, Longos, Talibaew, Quesban, Buenlag, and Nalsian. In some isolated areas, floodwaters have reached up to three feet deep.

“The water is still flowing heavily from Marusay River, and we anticipate further flooding in neighboring barangays as the situation develops,” Soriano said.

Authorities are also keeping close watch over Barangay Mancup, which lies near the river and is particularly prone to flooding.

Preemptive evacuation has been carried out in affected areas, though some residents have since returned to their homes. Officials continue to urge them to stay alert and be ready to move to higher ground if necessary.

“Temporary evacuation centers are ready and operational in the affected barangays, and we are in constant communication with the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMC) to coordinate immediate response efforts,” Soriano added. (Ahikam Pasion)
