FORMER Binmaley Mayor Simplicio “Sammy” Rosario has condemned the circulation of his mugshot on social media and private group chats, calling the act “malicious” and “misleading.”

The photograph, reportedly taken months ago in connection with a civil case, resurfaced online, prompting Rosario and his legal team to issue a formal statement on November 5, 2025.

According to the statement, the photo was taken as part of a civil case filed by a private supplier over alleged non-payment for materials used in a construction project. Rosario clarified that the case is “purely civil in nature” and denied any involvement in large-scale estafa, which some posts have falsely implied.

“The case is still pending resolution, and no guilt or wrongdoing has been established,” Rosario’s statement read. He added that while he cannot discuss specific details, he remains committed to following proper legal procedures.

The former mayor, who served Binmaley for several terms, accused certain individuals of deliberately spreading the mugshot to damage his reputation. He warned that the unauthorized distribution of the photo could violate privacy laws and may lead to cyber libel charges.

Rosario’s legal team is now taking steps to identify those responsible and plans to pursue legal action. He urged the public to refrain from sharing misleading content and to allow the judicial process to take its course.

Rosario thanked his supporters, expressing confidence in the justice system. He said he remains committed to upholding the integrity and service he has long been known for. (Eva Visperas)
