SENATE Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano said the government’s K-12 education program is an example of a good idea that lost focus and failed to achieve its goals.

In the latest episode of his vlog “CIA 365 with Kuya Alan,” Cayetano said the K-12 program started with a good vision but lacked sufficient funding and proper implementation.

Maganda ang intensyon, maganda ang K-12. Pero ang problema, hindi pinondohan nang husto ng gobyerno,” he said.

Cayetano recalled opposing the program when it was first proposed, citing the government’s lack of capacity to finance it. He also pointed out that corruption continues to divert funds away from essential programs.

He added that many schools now operate in two shifts, which affects the quality of education. “Sa highly urbanized cities, more than 2,000 schools na ang two shifts. K-12 ka nga, half day ka naman,” he said.

Cayetano emphasized that even the best education reforms will fail without focus and adequate funding. He urged agencies to prioritize results, ensure proper support, and align reforms with their original goals, stressing that the fight against corruption must begin with personal integrity.
