1.1 million Pangasinenses affected by “Uwan” — Guico
MORE than 1.1 million individuals from 345,673 families in 1,040 barangays across Pangasinan were affected by the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Uwan.” The figures were reported by Gov. Ramon Guico III during a situation briefing with cabinet secretaries and Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo on November 17 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen.
Based on the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office’s assessment, at least 34,618 houses were damaged, with 2,980 totally destroyed and 31,638 partially affected. Losses to agriculture reached P1.3 billion, impacting palay, corn, high-value crops, and fisheries. Damage to livestock was placed at P224,500, while roads, bridges, and public facilities recorded P176.5 million in destruction.
Guico emphasized that preemptive evacuation and coordinated risk communication were crucial in achieving zero casualty in the province. Pangasinan has been placed under a state of calamity through Provincial Resolution No. 934-2025 to expedite emergency assistance.
In Binmaley, among the hardest-hit towns, families in Barangay Sabangan received support from government agencies. A total of 469 families received cash aid under DSWD’s Emergency Shelter Assistance. The DOH distributed jerry cans and health kits, while R1MC held free medical consultations. DOLE also profiled 250 workers for the TUPAD program to help clear and restore damaged community facilities. (PIA)
